Millslade Country House

This is one of the best places we have ever stayed at, and I thoroughly recommend it. We were greeted on arrival with a warm welcome and tea in front of the fire - which was bliss as we had arrived wet and muddy from our day out in the cold rain. The house is so beautiful, and our room was really impressive. We had everything we could possibly need, the bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom huge with an excellent shower and heated towel rail - it's so nice to come back to a warm bathroom when you've been out in the rain and need to warm up! We enjoyed sitting next to the log fire in the lounge in the evening. And the breakfasts are wonderful - all ingredients locally sourced, and absolutely delicious. Anna and Simon were both so friendly and welcoming, and really made our stay a special one. They went out of their way to help us out e.g. storing our bikes safely, and I loved how every morning there was fresh milk waiting for us at our front door for a pre-breakfast cup of tea! We will certainly be back.

Wir haben uns mit unseren Kindern bei Anna und Simon sehr wohl gefühlt. Das B&B ist sehr sauber und gemütlich. Zum Frühstück gab es frisch zubereitete, leckere Speisen. Das Haus liegt ruhig im Grünen. Zum Hinkommen ist es nicht ganz einfach über die schmalen und teilweise steilen Strässchen, aber es lohnt sich. Das Abendessen haben wir nebenan im urchigen Pub eingenommen und können es ebenfalls sehr empfehlen.

Such a delightful experience, from Anna’s warm hospitality to Simon’s amazing food….you must sample the home cooked dinners, so delicious! Everything is of the highest quality, our room was so comfortable with double aspect on to the garden and the village. Thank you, Anna and Simon, you made us so very welcome.

I recently spent two nights at Millslade. My friends and I had a great time. During the days we hired electric mountain bikes to explore Exmoor, visited the goats (and kids!) at Valley of the Rocks, walked, went for a chilly dip in the river, and had two lovely pub dinners. All of these activities were nearby. The B&B was a gorgeous, peaceful place to return to for a relaxing stay, and the breakfasts were fantastic. I would definitely recommend this place to other visitors. Thank you for a lovely stay 🙂

Just had a brilliant weekend at Millslade! If you’re looking for a crackling fire, spacious rooms, super friendly hosts and a hearty locally sourced breakfast including fresh duck eggs look no further! A fantastic escape from London and a good location for exploring North Devon.

I first stayed here with my parents when i was a young teenager and i remember fishing in the creek, as us Aussies call it. My next visit was when i was 22/24 ish and we used the digs as a base for a few days, as we visited England from Australia. It was still such a beautiful part of my youth. And i also remembered reading Lorna Doone. A fascinating look at days gone bye etc etc.... Then would you believe skip forward another 40 odd years and the attraction is still there. The locals are so cool, friendly and chatty. The pub was just what a local should be, laughter, chit chat and sill stories re the Doone family. But here we are again. Im nearly eighty and Brendon, the hills and countryside, local villages and the locals are playing havoc with the desire to bring my lover with me. To be sure she won't want to leave.

Absolutely loved are stay here for Valentines night, Anna and Simon are so friendly and welcoming into there lovely home,Amazing Breakfast, Would highly recommend and we will definitely be back..

Millslade House is a small piece of heaven. Anna and Simon are gifted hosts and make you feel very special. The rooms are exquisite, breakfast is absolutely lush and on request evening meals can be enjoyed. The house is beautiful and the fire is lit on chilly evenings where you can enjoy a drink from the honesty bar, I love the Wicked Wolf gin which is brewed in the village. Don't spread the word too much or we won't get booked in.

Our first time at Millslade Country House hotel and wow what a delightful 4 night stay! We can honestly say it was the best experience we have ever encountered, so much so we really didn't want to leave. Anna and Simon's hospitality is second to none, instantly making you feel at home, super friendly and welcoming. The hotel is gorgeous and spacious, the bedroom and huge bathroom with both bath and shower kitted out beautifully and so cosy. The food both for breakfasts and dinner absolutely delicious, Simon is a fantastic cook and his bubble and squeak served at breakfast is epic! We ate dinner here on the first night, seared tuna for starters followed by homemade fish pie and fresh vegetables. Finishing the evening with a glass of wine in front of the log burner in the cosy communal lounge. To top it all Brendon village is set in a stunning location in a deep wooded valley with the River Lyn meandering past the hotel through the village. There are two pubs in the village, we visited both for dinner, typical pub grub but very nice. Once you are parked up at Millslade you really don't need to use the car, there are an abundance of walks from the doorstep. We did the Watersmeet walk along the river with a welcomed cuppa at the cafe and a walk on the moor to Malmsmead, so much to discover. We've booked twice for next year, can't wait to go back absolutely love it!
